Auditions for 2025 Melodramas and Olios!

Updated: 6 days ago

What: Auditions for this year's Sandwich Fair Melodramas and Olios

When: July 11th from 7-9pm and July 13th from 2-5pm

Where: Sandwich Opera House - Community Room

Accepting auditions from anyone 13 and up. No acting experience required. Great way to try out the theatre! Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script.

Tillie the Teller: Tillie, the teller, loves Peter Strongvault, stalwart guard at the Fidelity National Bank. But Oliver Wheedle, black-hearted president of the bank, has plans for Tillie. For he has been stealing bank funds and threatens to blame the shortages on Tillie if she refuses to do his evil bidding. But Strongvault comes to the rescue, capturing two desperate bank robbers after a life and death struggle, and helping to expose Wheedle for the rascal he really is.

Ghosts and Gold: With a trick shot expert on the train to who know where … anything can happen. Meet Sharpshooter Cantankerous Kate a talented singer and working in her own Wild West show after years of performing in the circus. Montana Ana her apprentice, and the supposedly "rehabilitated" villain Professor Mack who is now running The Mack Brother's Travelling Wild West Show in Paris France. We promise an ample supply of twists and turns, schemers and dreamers, misdirection and mystery, frivolity, and a last-minute plot-twist gunfight on a train that will change everything.

What is an Olio?

An Olio is any kind of short performative piece that can be performed before, during, or after a Melodrama or other theatrical performance. Olios tend to last only 3-6 minutes, but can range from song and dance routines to displaying a talent like magic or juggling to short one-scene acts. If you are interested in performing an Olio, IVT is currently looking for several Olio acts to coincide with the Melodramas.

See below for some examples of what an Olio might look like:
